Old Man Canyon Plays The Casbah 11/11/14

Vancouver’s Old Man Canyon is touring down the West Coast in support of debut EP, Phantoms & Friends. The dark-folk outfit have a sound that blends Coldplay with Edward Sharp & The Magnetic Zeros and Margo & The Nuclear So & Sos.
Phantoms and Friends is veiled in mystery, shrouded in the aura of a dark dreamland. AudioTree says Old Man Canyon, “Speaks on dreams, doubt and regret in simple but well-structured phrasing. Their authentic approach to musical creation puts poignant thoughts above contemporaries. The willingness to break folk rules contributes to this authenticity.”

Old Man Canyon is born from the efforts of front man Jett Pace and since the release of Phantoms & Friends earlier this year, the music from the EP has been featured in NBC’s About A Boy, MTV’s Awkward, Showtime’s Shameless and the Bravo seriesSuits, to name a few.  Recently their song, “Take Me Higher” was featured in Sons of Anarchy. Perez Hilton calls the music, “Moody and melodic” and says, “Old Man Canyon is bringing some freshness with their throwback sound.”

Nothing More: Nothing More

Nothing MoreNothing More has released their self-titled major label debut album and it promises to launch the band towards a lengthy career. The band has been gaining steam and popularity over the past year with their dynamic live festival appearances and lead single ‘This Is The Time (Ballast)’. Now the full spectrum of their fresh, chaotic sound and deep, clever lyrics can be heard by all. If all you care about is the music, brace yourself for a roller coaster ride full of sonic twists and turns, slow builds and frenetic payoffs. If you’re into lyrics, you won’t get much deeper than the philosophy and social commentary found here. ‘Nothing More’ is an album that leaps out of your speakers, grabs you by the lapels and pleads with you to feel the intensity of emotion barely contained within. If you have been looking for something different to listen to, this is something different. You really need to hear it to understand..

Starset: Transmissions

Starset Transmissions‘Transmissions’ is the debut album from avant-garde artists Starset. ‘Transmissions’ plays like a science fiction soundtrack, with sweeping electronics and dramatic shifts in pace and tone on top of the more typical rock sound. Vocalist Dustin Bates blends his singing in perfectly with the ever-changing sonic landscape, drawing the listener into the drama, just as a top actor would. ‘My Demons’ is one of the top 10 singles of the year and a fine example of the entire album. Let yourself go and take a journey across the universe with Starset..

Judas Priest: Redeemer Of Souls

Judas Priest: Redeemer Of SoulsIt’s 2014 and the Priest is back, with a vengeance! Redeemer Of Souls is everything a Judas Priest fan would want – an endless onslaught of catchy riffs, thunderous rhythm, screaming solos and soaring vocals. Think British Steel songwriting skill with Painkiller production quality. When a band reaches legend status, new material is usually disappointing and makes you want to listen to the back catalog. This is not the case with Redeemer Of Souls. This album makes you want to hear every single track over and over again, and maybe even pick up a guitar and try to learn the riffs. The title track and first single is not even in my top 5 favorite songs, which is the best indication of an album that will remain in your playlist for a long time. These metal masters are not content to go quietly into the good night – in fact, they are hitting the road and you do not want to miss this renaissance..

About The Dead Rabbitts:
The Dead Rabbitts are a metalcore super group from Phoenix, AZ. The band is comprised of Craig Mabbitt (Escape the Fate), Alex Torres (Eyes Set to Kill, Greeley Estates, Alesana), TJ Bell (Escape the Fate, Motionless in White), and Chris Julian. The music is largely reminiscent of Mabbitt’s previous groups Blessthefall and The Word Alive with Mabbitt telling AltPress “this is what I wanted to do with The Word Alive.” It’s a heavier bombardment of sound than Escape The Fate fans will be used to, but is still filled with plenty of hooks and harmonies.
After the release of their first EP Edge of Reality (produced by Caleb Shomo of Attack, Attack! and Beartooth) and a successful tour with Get Scared, The Dead Rabbitts signed with Tragic Hero Records. “It pretty much fell into place, says Mabbitt. “I called Escape The Fate’s old manager. I said, ‘If you’re interested, why don’t you manage this project?’ He said, ‘Cool. Well, I’m managing A Skylit Drive right now and they’re on Tragic Hero. Show me some songs.” So I did, and everybody loved them.
Mabbitt and The Dead Rabbitts immediately began work on a full-length album with Andrew Wade (A Day To Remember, Motionless in White) in Ocala, Florida. “Wade took a lot of the songs and fucking killed it, in a good way,” says Mabbitt. “He took one of my least-favorite songs that we recorded, and now it’s the whole band’s favorite. It’s crazy how much something so simple can completely change a song.” The new album is entitled Shapeshifter and is even heavier and faster than Edge of Reality. It was released via Tragic Hero on July 1st, reaching number one on the Metal, Heatseekers, and New Artist charts.
